Na-nak-lamek Teacher Residency

The Round Valley Unified School District and Sonoma State University’s College of Education, Counseling and Ethnic Studies are proud to announce the Na-nak-lamek Round Valley Teacher Residency Program. Na-nak-lamek (Yuki translation) means “Learning in process now” and is intended to represent the unique opportunity for individuals interested in a teaching profession to earn practical hours at a culturally diverse educational setting.
Our purpose is to ensure that every child has an exceptionally well prepared teacher and that every teacher receives a high quality teacher preparation program. We strive to engage our community members to become teachers in the place they already live to help contribute to the educational success of our students.
We are committed to developing local educators who reflect the diversity of the Round Valley community through online and Saturday “face to face” classes at the Sonoma State University satellite campus in Ukiah, California. Individuals with a B.A./B.S. seeking a credential could complete the program in two semesters at the residency program field site at the Round Valley Elementary/Middle School. The field hours require the resident to be in the classroom for at least 50% of the school week. Residents may also sub for the other half to earn income while student teaching.
Financial aid is available to pay the full tuition for the residency program and additional funding may be available to pay a stipend for residency participants. In addition to the comprehensive teaching experience that our residents will enjoy, the program offers the opportunity to work with cohorts of other resident peers, a series of professional development offered by the university, and will lead to a rewarding career in the educational field.
